Darker My Love - 2 (2008)

Probably one of the best new psychedelic and shoegaze bands of this moment. This L.A. quartet made with '2' an astonishing record. Stand out songs are 'talking words', 'two ways out' and 'waves'. Currently on tour in Europe (with A Place To Bury Strangers). Forget the last B.R.M.C. album, they deserve much more attention. Visit their Myspace.

Nightstalker - Use (1996)

Sorry for my absence today, I had some upload problems. If you love the (early) Monster Magnet, you'll love this also. Nightstalker were founded in Athens (Greece) in the early ninety's. 'Use' was their first full-length album, released in 1996. There are real stoner classics on this album ( 'U.F.O.', 'Freakland', and 'This is U' to name a few). Other releases are: Side Fx EP (1994), The Ritual (2000) and Just a Burn (2004)
They have just finished the recordings of their next full-length album. Visit their Myspace here or website.

Thx to Peter (Greece) to call attention to this.

Vegas - Midnight Machine EP (2009)

Here's another promising new Belgian band. The main dish is garage rock, flavoured with surf and noise and spiced with 'At The Drive In'-peppers. On 'Damn Bones' you'll also hear a theremin (I like the theremin, it's pretty spooky). I hope they'll release a full album soon. Listen here: Myspace
All credits to RibsOut, thx comrade!

We:Duo - The Simian Songs EP (2008)

We:Duo ( Sweden) brings an acoustic version of the Matadors, fueled with (delta)blues. No wonder, 'cause the two members of We:Duo are ANDREAS BERGSTRÖM and JOHAN ANDERBERG, two members of the Matadors and Ridge. They're currently working on a new album, Owls and Killers.

Drive Like Maria - Elmwood (2009)

Drive Like Maria is a new Belgian/Dutch rock band. Their debut album is named to a place in Dallas where John Congleton (Black Mountain) did the mixing and recording. You'll hear clearly the influences of QOTSA, Led Zeppelin and Triggerfinger. Additional vocal by U.S. singer-songwriter Janis Ian.
Visit their Myspace here.
And remember, buy some stuff or go to their shows, support them in every way, they really deserve it. Highly recommended.

The Dead Weather - Single (2009)

...Speaking of The White Stripes & QOTSA, here's Jack White newest project.
.
The Dead Weather are:
Jack White (The White Stripes / Raconteurs)
Alison Mosshart (The Kills)
Dean Fertita (Queens of the Stone Age)
Jack Lawrence (Raconteurs / Greenhornes)
.
trackist:
1. Hang You from the Heavens” (Mosshart/Fertita)
2. Are Friends Electric?” (Gary Numan cover)

Their first full length release called “Horehound” is expected for June.

Le Chat Noir - Deadwood (2008)

This is probably the hottest male/female duo around. Deadwood is this transatlantic duo second album. Think sleazy garage rock saturated with QOTSA distortion. Forget the White Stripes e.a., this is the real stuff. Visit their website here.

Crystal Antlers - EP (2008)

Strange mix between psychedelic and punk from this Californian sextet. This six-song debut (this download 1 bonus song, 'baby blue') is a wild ride through classic psychedelia and contemporary prog-rock, filtered through chaotic elements of punk and hardcore that have come in between. Of course you'll hear echoes of Comets on Fire and 13th Floor Elevators. They have already released their first full-length debut (Tentacles) earlier this year.

Burning Brides - Anhedonia (2008)

Burning Brides have started rock and roll religion with 'Fall of the Plastic Empire' (released in 2002). In continuing with their tradition of dark melodic heavy rock, the Brides have created 'Anhedonia' (already their 4th album), a record full of haunting riffs and eerily beautiful anthems. They've toured with bands such as Zen Guerilla, QOTSA, ...Trail of Dead, Monster Magnet, A Perfect Circle, Eagles of Death Metal and much more. Check them here.

The Bloody Honkies - The Gospel of... (2007)

The Bloody Honkies is a Dutch quartet that bring us a 60's and 70's style (garage)rock with some psychedelic and blues influences. Or think The Stooges fronted by Jon Spencer, it just have the soul and rawness I like. You can listen here: Myspace

RC5 - Gotta getaway (2004)

This is a gift from Captain poon, thank you very much, captain!
This is kick ass crusty rock 'n' roll in the same styles of bands like Zeke, The Hookers and The Supersuckers. Visit their Myspace.

Note: As you can see, I have been messing with my layout, hope you like it. This will be my last post this week, I wish you all a good week-end and a lot of fun in the blogosphere, cheers!

72blues - Said I Would (2005)

72Blues were a good time dirty delta rock n' roll blues band that went dog-gone strong on some rough roads for over 6 years. The band originated from Melbourne, Australia and featured Lizzy Ray on vox, Reggie Ray on drums (originally from Windsor/Detroit, also from Melbourne's highly acclaimed Konqistador), Ben Hall on bass and Grant Emery on guitar. 72Blues delivered no less than a stinging blend of down south and signifying honky rawkin-blues; celebratin' old time traditional music, swing blues, delta blues, rock blues and nailing it with original, contemporary pop sensibilities. This mob of musos hen pecked and scuffled a devilish blend of country-blues, swamp-blues, gospel rhythms, cotton field chants, gospel-blues and prison-blues. (from their myspace)

Wool - Box Set (1994)

Wool, with Franz and Pete Stahl, released their first full-length album 'Box Set' in 1994. Other releases are: debut EP, Budspawn ('92) and a live album ('95). They've also recorded a 7"split single with Kyuss. Expect an alternative sort of rock (grunge) which was very popular in the early '90s. They split up by the summer of 1996. Peter Stahl went on to play with Earthlings? and Goatsnake and appeared on several of Josh Homme's (Queens of the Stone Age) The Desert Sessions albums.

The Mistreaters - Playa Hated To The Fullest (2003)

The Mistreaters, from Milwaukee, brings an abrasive and explosive raw punkrock, with just a touch of that garage blues thing. Produced & recorded by garage rock titan Jim Diamond (Dirtbombs), additional musicians are the Come Ons' Deanne Iovan and Jim Diamond. They released two full albums, 'Grab them cake' (1999) and 'Playa hated to the fullest' in 2003 and also a 7" EP 'Personal space invader' in 2001. For fans of the Dirtbombs, Burning Brides e.a..
